The Management Board of MCI Management informs that on September 11, 2007 the Fund signed an agreement under which it shall invest in the Bulgarian WiMAX telecommunications operator – Nexcom. MCI shall invest USD 5 million in two tranches for at least 31.6% of the shares in the company. Furthermore, MCI shall grant Nexcom a loan in the amount of USD 2.129 million for 1 year with a possibility of extending for another year. The investment shall be conducted with the use of a special purpose vehicle (SPV). Apart from MCI at the same time Intel Capital, the global technology fund that is the leader in investments in WiMAX segment, shall invest in Nexcom.
The shares of Nexcom Bulgaria taken up by MCI shall be brought to MCI.EuroVentures 1.0 subfund (in organization) managed by MCI Capital TFI SA. MCI.EuroVentures 1.0 is a private equity closed-end investment fund investing in unlisted medium-sized enterprises in the area of New Europe.
Nexcom Bulgaria EAD has been operating in the Bulgarian market as an alternative telecommunications operator since 1998. The company successfully entered into the market with an offer of voice services and access to the Internet. In 2005 Nexcom won the tender for the national WiMAX frequency and is building the first in Bulgaria network of wireless access based on WiMAX technology.
The investment in Bulgaria conducted on behalf of MCI by its Associate Partner Bogdan WiĹniewski is another investment confirming the execution of the plans of the Fund regarding the markets of New Europe.
The Management Board of MCI Management SA shall be informing about further activities connected with this investment project in next current reports of the company.
